Asset Management Planning

We have the know-how you need.

All public works organizations perform asset management in some form.  The method of management vary from asset to asset or even within an organization.  Imagine all the infrastructure assets which an agency may be responsible, includes:

  • Roads

  • Road Markings

  • Trails

  • Signs

  • Traffic Signals

  • Guard Rails

  • Street lights

  • Sidewalks

  • Curb and Gutter

  • Inlets

  • Manholes

  • Trees

Think about all the work that goes into keeping each asset functional:

  • Maintenance

  • Rehabilitation or replacement

  • Prioritizing budgets

  • Planning

  • Coordinating utilities and maintenance crews

  • Citizen requests

  • Vendors and contractors

Without accurate and up-to-date information including these and other activities, it is challenging to make decisions necessary to effectively manage public works assets and resources.

In our many years of experience in public works, we have seen agencies and organizations struggle with asset management.  It is often that we see agencies not have any inventory of what they own.   Agencies can not keep up with asset needs of maintaining the systems and as a result infrastructure asset suffers and the level of service declines.  AMS has worked closely with agencies in helping them stretch their dollars by implementing asset management data and technology in helping them prioritize risk.  We help our clients improve risk management by assessing the probability and consequence of asset failures.

Here's the AMS Difference

  • AM Experience –  AMS has worked with local agencies for many years conducting asset inventories to implementing asset management systems to asset planning and risk prioritization.  We have experience working closely with elected officials in helping them create an asset management plan for pavements, where the City would use asset risk as a factor for pavements to be treated.

  • Innovation – Good asset management requires innovation.  By its nature, the industry is always looking to the future, whether that's planning maintenance for the next 20 years or seeing how the latest technologies can benefit your assets.   AMS is at the forefront of asset data collection.  Asset inventories is the largest task of an asset management plan.  AMS has developed technology to capture asset features and locations using state-of-the-art technology such as 360 degree images, lidar, video based technology, and object detection technology.  With our partnership with ESRI and other third-party companies coupled with our in-house application developers we are able to expedite the asset inventory process.
